Digimill Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Race Marks mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

Information We Collect
Information You Provide
Account Information: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay email if you use Apple’s Hide My Email feature). This helps us:
- Link your subscription across devices
- Identify your feedback and support requests
- Send you notifications about content you’ve registered interest in
Interest Registrations: When you register interest in a club or upcoming season, we store your user ID and the club/season you’re interested in so we can notify you when content becomes available.
Vessel Information: If you choose to provide details about your vessel (e.g., boat name, sail number, vessel type), this information is stored with your account and may be visible to club administrators during race tracking.
Information We Collect Automatically
Location Data: Race Marks is a navigation app — location data is essential for it to work. We take the responsibility of handling your location data seriously and apply the principle of minimum necessary data at every stage. We only retain precise location information near navigable waters.
Where possible, we encourage you to connect your vessel’s onboard instruments to the App. Vessel-sourced data (via NMEA) provides richer marine environment information and is inherently associated with your boat rather than you personally, making it easier to anonymise effectively.
How location data is handled depends on your account type, settings, and context. The following table summarises our location data practices:

Marine Instrument Data: If you connect the App to your vessel’s onboard instruments and opt in to data sharing, we may collect marine environmental data including tidal flow, current speed and direction, water depth, and wind measurements. This data is:
- Transmitted to our servers and then anonymised during processing — identifying information about you and your vessel is stripped and the data is aggregated before storage
- Used to improve marine condition information and to create derived datasets (see “Marine Data Research” below)
Device Information: We collect device type, operating system version, and app version to diagnose issues and ensure compatibility.
Usage Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand how people use the app — which features are popular, where users encounter problems, and how to improve the experience. This data is aggregated and doesn’t identify you personally.
Crash Reports: If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics collects diagnostic information including the stack trace, device state, and recent user actions. This helps us fix bugs quickly.
Session Recordings (Beta): During the beta testing period, we use LogRocket to record app sessions. This captures screen activity, taps, and navigation within the app to help us understand usability issues. Session recordings:
- Do not capture passwords or payment information
- Are associated with your user ID if you’re signed in
- Are reviewed only when investigating reported issues
- Will be opt-in or disabled for retail users after beta
Information from Third Parties
Subscription Data: RevenueCat processes your purchases through the App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not receive or store your payment card details.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide navigation features and display your position on charts
- Process and manage your subscriptions
- Enable race tracking features when you opt in (sharing your location with club administrators)
- Notify you when content you’ve registered interest in becomes available
- Send important service updates (e.g., changes to racing marks, app updates)
- Analyse usage patterns to improve the app
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
- Respond to your support requests
- Improve tidal and current data accuracy through anonymised marine instrument data
How We Share Your Information
We share your information only in the following circumstances:
Club Administrators: If you enable race tracking, your location and vessel information may be shared with club administrators using the Race Marks Committee Edition. Club administrators access this data through the App for race management and safety purposes only.
Vetted Research Partners: Derived anonymous datasets created from marine instrument data may be shared with vetted third parties, subject to appropriate data sharing agreements. These may include:
- Marine research institutes
- Academic institutions
- Hydrographic organisations
All shared datasets are fully anonymised and contain no personal information. Third-party recipients are vetted before any data is shared.
Service Providers:
- Firebase (Google) — analytics, crash reporting, authentication, cloud storage
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- LogRocket — session replay (beta only)
These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect your information.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
We do not sell your personal data.
Marine Data Research
We believe in contributing to the understanding of our marine environment. We may create derived anonymous datasets from collected marine instrument data. These datasets may be used to:
- Improve the accuracy of tidal flow and current predictions within the App, including hyper-local tidal predictions
- Support academic research into marine conditions and environmental changes
- Contribute to hydrographic surveys and nautical chart improvements
Derived datasets are created from anonymised, aggregated data and cannot be traced back to individual users, vessels, or specific locations at a resolution that could identify a participant. Datasets are only shared with vetted third parties under appropriate data sharing agreements.

Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active, deleted within 30 days of account deletion
- Analytics data: Aggregated and retained for up to 14 months
- Crash reports: Retained for 90 days
- Session recordings: Retained for 30 days
- Interest registrations: Retained until you unsubscribe or delete your account
- Race tracking location data: Retained for the duration of the race event, then deleted after 90 days
- Anonymised marine data: Retained indefinitely as it is fully anonymised and not personal data. Once contributed and aggregated, it cannot be removed or attributed to an individual.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for optional data collection (such as race tracking, marine instrument data sharing, or session recordings)
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest

Account Deletion
You can delete your account from the app’s Settings screen. This will:
- Remove your account from our authentication system
- Delete your interest registrations
- Cancel any active subscriptions (you’ll retain access until the paid period ends)
- Remove your data from our analytics within 30 days
- Delete any stored race tracking data
- Note: Anonymised marine instrument data that has already been aggregated cannot be removed, as it is no longer personal data
Data Security
We protect your data using:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
- Encryption at rest for stored data
- Access controls limiting who can view personal data
- Regular security reviews
- Server-side anonymisation of marine instrument data during processing, with identifying information stripped before storage
- Precise location data retained only near navigable waters
Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries outside your residence, including the United States (where our service providers operate). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Under GDPR, our legal bases for processing are:
- Contract: To provide the services you’ve requested (navigation, subscriptions)
- Legitimate interest: To improve our app, fix issues, and understand sailing area usage
- Consent: For optional features including race tracking location sharing, marine instrument data collection, and session recordings
You may withdraw consent for optional features at any time through the App’s settings without affecting the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.
You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we’ve violated your rights.
Additional Information for California Users
Under CCPA, California residents have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
